When we talk about contracts in this business law blog, we often use examples of agreements that involve very large deals. Contracts of this size can often lead to multimillion-dollar damages when something goes wrong. While these are often the contracts we hear about in the news, they certainly aren’t the only ones that matter.

Use the example of a business that is growing in popularity in San Diego. Whether you would choose to document one of the most amazing — but painful and personal — times in your life, birth photography has become increasingly more requested. For the photographer, this means that they have to be on call for on average about two weeks.

The birth of a child truly is one of those amazing moments in life, and more and more parents want to document the experience. When it comes to how personal the photography gets, that is up to the new mom and dad. The photographer will be there from the moment that they walk through the doors of the hospital until the moment that they say hello to the delicate child in their arms.

This amazing experience doesn’t come with a schedule. Sure, there is a tentative due date, but if you have ever had a child you know that it can be days or even weeks off. The photographer must be on call from the moment that birth “could be” imminent, through the false alarms to the actual contractions. That is a long time for something to go wrong. Even a relationship such as this shouldn’t just be put on paper but into a solid contract.
