A San Diego technology company recently issued a major announcement regarding a Pittsburgh tech firm. The two businesses have reached a merger agreement, they said, in which our city’s Reaction Design will be integrated with Ansys, an engineering software company.

Reaction Design creates chemistry simulation software for 400 customers worldwide.

The deal is expected to close next month, so details of the transaction were not immediately available to news media. More information will be made available as the business attorneys for both firms work out the details of the marriage of the pair of companies.

Reaction Design creates chemistry simulation software used to then help energy and transport companies develop clean technologies. Those products and abilities will dovetail with Ansys’s computational fluid solutions, the firms said.

“Combining (Reaction Design’s) solvers with Ansys’ solutions will give customers new insights into the combustion processes in their products – driving increased fuel efficiency,” the Ansys chief executive officer said in a statement.

It was not clear from the announcement how the merger might affect San Diego employees or company facilities.

According to the Reaction Design website, the company was recently selected as a finalist for a 2013 Most Innovative New Product Award. The company’s Forte CFD Package, which predicts soot particle formation in internal combustion engines, is up for the award given out by Connect, the San Diego County program that honors innovation.

Ansys, Inc. employs more than 2,500 people and works with customers in more than 40 countries, it says on its website.
