The United States government has recently given its blessing to the proposed merger of two major airlines, American Airlines and US Airways. Anytime such mergers are given clearance for take-off, customers may have some questions concerning how it may affect them and the services that they have come to expect. California fliers are possibly wondering just as much as the rest of the country as to exactly how how this business deal may impact their personal travel.

While it is estimated to take some time for the merger to be completed, consumers may be able to take some cues as to what may change, based on what has happened when other airlines have combined. When two companies meshed in the past, ticket fares increased. Estimates place the rise in prices at more than 14 percent. However, it has been reported that the bonus programs, often referred to as frequent fliers, will remain unchanged, and in fact, miles earned will be combined for many customers.

One of the perks that both companies have touted is an increase in travel destinations. With the combined routes of the separate airlines, it is expected that more than 6,500 take-offs will occur daily. Along with the increase in cities and flights, it is hoped that the new company will appeal to business travelers.

There is the possibility of some turbulence until the whole business plan is smoothed out. Because previous mergers have resulted in some uncertainty and closed terminals, customers may experience a few hiccups along the way. Overall, however, the process will hopefully offer travelers a wide range of options and perks. California businesses are no stranger to the process of mergers and other similar agreements. There are many resources that can assist any corporation that may be exploring its options when such opportunities encourage it to take flight.
